Five for Friday...February 28th

Wow it's been a crazy busy week...but fun!!!
I was excited to get our schedule back to normal and hoping for spring....but with the forecast for Sunday it's not looking too promising!

I'm linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for 5 For Friday!

Here are five great things that happened this week!

ONE

I blogged earlier this month about indoor wellness.  I thought I would share what we do to get some exercise during indoor wellness time!  We pull up Just Dance and rock it out!  This one is from One Direction, "What Makes You Beautiful!"  I also really enjoy "What Does the Fox Say?"

TWO

I have been starting a BIG project of making some reading intervention centers.  I wanted to share how I organize my reading centers in the classroom.  I am lucky enough to have a parent volunteer during my literacy centers and they look at what "color" group they have for the day and pull from the colored folders.  The groups are grouped based on their need.  As you will see below, currently my green group (green folders) are working on fluency and my yellow group is working on word families.  I love this organization this year and I am excited to start making my own intervention centers for each of the five components of reading!

THREE

We are lucky enough at my school to have a STEM lab, where our kiddos go every other week to engage in a very hands on "engineering" and "critical thinking" type of experiment.  They start by writing in their learning logs with "I wonder."  This week is what will happen when I put a skittle in water and in baby oil.  Then they did it!  It was so neat because the "S" actually floated on top of the water!!!  Then at the end they reflected and wrote down what they know.

FOUR

I LOVE Fridays!!!  Our first grade and fourth grade have reading buddies first thing in the morning every Friday.  Our kids LOVE having someone to read to and/or read to them.  We are also going to start having the fourth graders do a fluency passage each week with our firsties and graph them.  FABUlOUS!

FIVE

I have truly loved experiencing my first TPT sale as a seller!!!  It was so much fun.  There is only 2 hours left!! Make sure you head on over!

Thank you Doodle Bugs Teaching for letting me link up on this Five For Friday!

  1. We use Just Dance as indoor recess. My kids LOVE it, especially the two songs that you mentioned! They also request Whip My Hair... because when I am in a good mood I will do it with them - HA!
